Microsoft has updated its feature deprecation list by adding WordPad to the list, preparing to remove it from Windows permanently in the future.
Microsoft recommends users who are still using WordPad to switch to Microsoft Word for creating rich text documents (.doc, .rtf) and to use Notepad for basic text documents (.txt).
WordPad is a basic program that has been installed since Windows 95 and stopped receiving updates since Windows 8, but it has been included in Windows until the latest version, Windows 11. This announcement is not surprising given Microsoft’s focus on updating features for Notepad.
