Enhancing the Stash: Sony Affirms the Inclusion of Expansive SSD M.2 Slot in Newfangled PS5 Model

Sony has finally addressed the lingering uncertainty surrounding the availability of the SSD M.2 slot in the new PlayStation 5 model. In an email response to IGN, Sony confirmed that there have been no changes to this particular aspect in the new PS5 model. This means that users will still have the option to open up their console and install an additional SSD M.2 to expand their storage capacity.

Just last month, Sony announced an update that would allow the PS5 to support up to 8TB of SSD storage, a significant upgrade from the previous limit of 4TB. However, it’s important to note that the SSD M.2 must be a PCIe Gen 4 model with a minimum read speed of 5,500MB/s. Despite this requirement, users have reported successful usage of SSDs with lower speeds.

TLDR: Sony has confirmed that the new PS5 model still retains the option for users to install an additional SSD M.2. The console now supports up to 8TB of storage, but it requires a PCIe Gen 4 SSD with a minimum read speed of 5,500MB/s. However, users have found success with SSDs that fall below the recommended speed.
