Remote Working Cancelled: Employees Mandated to Spend a Minimum of 3 Days Per Week in Office

David Baszucki, the CEO and co-founder of Roblox, has announced a change in the company’s work policy that will affect its employees. Specifically, remote workers will now be required to start working in the main office located in San Mateo starting next summer.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Roblox, like many other companies, has implemented remote work measures since March 2020. Despite the end of the pandemic, many companies are still opting to support a fully remote work approach. Roblox has had several discussions regarding this matter and concluded that due to being an innovative company, they still value in-person collaboration. Additionally, they believe that employees who have just finished their education or have limited work experience should gain social skills from in-person interactions, including guidance from senior employees.

Baszucki expressed confidence that at some point, online work with a virtual atmosphere could be equivalent to in-person interactions, but they haven’t reached that point yet.

This change will affect almost all employees at Roblox, except for those already working remotely. They will have until January 2024 to decide whether to accept the new conditions. If they choose to do so, the company will support their relocation expenses to be closer to the office. The options include working full-time in the office or three days a week, Tuesday to Thursday. If they decline this offer, the company will provide compensation for future employment.

TLDR: Roblox CEO David Baszucki announced that the company’s remote workers will be required to work at the main office in San Mateo from next summer. Despite the pandemic ending, Roblox believes in-person collaboration and social interaction are important for innovation and young employees’ growth. Existing remote workers have until January 2024 to decide whether to accept the new conditions or receive compensation for their future employment.
