CD Projekt Red has revealed to Bloomberg that they are utilizing an AI technique to synthesize the voice of a deceased voice actor in the game Cyberpunk 2077. This actor is Miłogost Reczek, a Polish actor known for his role as Viktor Vektor, a cyberneticist in the Polish version of Cyberpunk. Unfortunately, Reczek passed away in 2021 before he could complete the voice work for the game’s DLC, Phantom Liberty.
CD Projekt Red considered the option of finding a new voice actor to replace Vektor’s voice in the main game and then updating the DLC with the new voice. However, the team was reluctant to go down this path as Reczek was a renowned actor in Poland and his unique voice was a distinct and integral part of the game.
As a solution, CD Projekt Red decided to use a software called Respeecher to generate Reczek’s voice for the Phantom Liberty DLC. This decision was made in consultation with Reczek’s family and has received their full support.
The use of AI to replicate the voice of deceased individuals has been a highly controversial topic. A previous example was the criticism faced by the use of AI to recreate the voice of Robin Williams, the late actor, which was deemed as “disturbing” by his daughter.

Instead of replacing the actor, the company has chosen to use software to replicate his voice for the game’s DLC, Phantom Liberty. The decision has received support from Reczek’s family.
