Funcom, a Norwegian game company that owns the online game Conan Exiles (currently a studio under Tencent), has unveiled the first trailer of their new online game Dune: Awakening, a survival game set on the desert planet Arrakis from the sci-fi novel and movie Dune.
The project Dune: Awakening was first announced in 2022 and then went quiet for a while. Recently, with the release of Dune Part Two in theaters, Funcom seized the opportunity to reveal the game trailer for the first time, capitalizing on the global interest in the Dune universe.
Describing itself as an Open World Survival MMO, Dune: Awakening combines MMO elements that Funcom is known for, along with resource gathering, base-building for survival (from the desert and sandworms), exploration of the world, survival gameplay, and a large player community within the game.
Dune: Awakening is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, although the exact release date has not been specified yet. The game’s Steam page is now live.
Previously, Funcom had the game Dune: Spice Wars, an RTS game similar to Dune II, which was a pioneer in the RTS genre in the past. Spice Wars was developed by the French studio Shiro Games, while Funcom acted as the distributor. However, with Awakening, Funcom is both developing and publishing the game entirely on their own.
TLDR: Funcom, known for Conan Exiles, unveiled Dune: Awakening, an MMO survival game set in the Dune universe. The game combines survival elements, exploration, and a large player community, set to launch on PC and consoles. Funcom is developing and publishing the game independently.
