Google has introduced a new feature to Gmail in Google Workspace that incorporates Gemini to read the content of emails. If there is any message related to a specific date (such as 9am this Tuesday), a button “Add to Calendar” will appear allowing users to schedule appointments directly into their calendar. Currently, this feature is only available on the web version of Gmail.
This feature differs from Gmail’s existing system that automatically extracts date information from email content such as flight tickets, restaurant reservations, or delivery schedules that have a predefined format. This time, Gemini is used to read and understand the human-written date in a non-standard format, unlike the automated email.
In addition to this, Gmail in Google Workspace also features Contextual Smart Reply, where Gemini reads the email content and drafts replies automatically. We are responsible for reviewing and editing before hitting send, as previously announced.
