Enhanced User Options: Empowering Custom Account Selection with Exclusive Verified Icons for Tweet Replies

X has updated to add an option for users to choose which accounts with Verified symbols can respond to their tweets. This option is available for both regular users and X Premium subscribers.

Elon Musk tweeted after the feature was announced, stating that this new control will help combat spam bots. The reply option feature was introduced in 2020 to limit who can reply to tweets, allowing users to choose everyone, accounts they follow, or accounts mentioned.

Previously, X prioritized accounts with Verified symbols, offering features such as setting DMs to receive messages only from verified users, being able to run ads, extending the tweet editing time to 1 hour from the previous 30 minutes, and having verified accounts’ tweets displayed on the For You page.

However, Musk is attempting to reduce spammy replies. According to a report from NBC News, many X accounts with Verified symbols have posted fake news about topics like allocating $8 billion to aid the Israeli military.
