Google and HP Collaborate to Initiate Chromebook Production in India, Paving the Way for Make In India Policy

Google has teamed up with HP to start manufacturing Chromebooks in India, in line with the government’s Make in India initiative. HP has been operating factories in India since 2020, located near Chennai, producing laptops and desktop PCs. The production of Chromebooks will begin in October 2023, with a focus on the Indian education sector. However, the specific models of Chromebooks to be manufactured in India have not been disclosed.

We are witnessing a shift in the strategies of several major tech brands, as they establish manufacturing facilities in India to produce goods solely for the Indian market. A clear example of this trend is Apple, which started manufacturing the iPhone 15 in India, with products ready for sale from day one.

TLDR: Google and HP have joined forces to produce Chromebooks in India, following the government’s Make in India policy. Manufacturing will commence in October 2023, targeting the Indian education sector. This move reflects a growing trend among tech giants to establish production facilities in India for the domestic market. Apple, for instance, has already started manufacturing iPhones in India.
