Sony has begun offering PS5 gameplay through cloud streaming for PlayStation Plus Premium members, as promised back in November. Despite Sony having its own game streaming service (formerly known as PlayStation Now) for quite some time, it only allowed games from PS3/PS4 to be played. Playing PS5 games required downloading them to the console.
Game streaming supports four resolution levels: 720p, 1080p, 1440p, and 4K, at a frame rate of 60 FPS. It also supports HDR display, maximum 7.1 audio, and recording gameplay videos up to 3 minutes long.
The first country to have access to PS5 cloud streaming was Japan, starting on October 17th, followed by Europe on October 23rd, and North America on October 30th. However, Sony’s game streaming service is currently available only in select countries within these regions, excluding Thailand and the rest of Asia (except Japan).
The initial lineup of games available through the service includes Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, Mortal Kombat 11, Saints Row IV, and if PlayStation Plus Premium members already own these games offline, they can also play them via cloud streaming. Additional PS5 games such as Resident Evil 4, Dead Island 2, Genshin Impact, Fall Guys, and Fortnite are also supported, with access to DLC and various special add-ons, just like downloaded versions of the games.
TLDR: Sony now offers PS5 gameplay through cloud streaming for PlayStation Plus Premium members. The service supports different resolutions, frame rates, HDR, high-quality audio, and recording gameplay videos. Although only available in select countries in Japan, Europe, and North America, it allows members to play a range of PS5 games, including popular titles and those already owned offline, along with access to DLC and add-ons.
