Q3/2023 Smartphone Sales Experience 8% Contraction: Leading Brands Witness Substantial Decline

Counterpoint Research has released a report on smartphone sales in the third quarter of 2023, revealing a slight contraction of the market by 8% compared to the same quarter last year. However, there was a marginal growth of 2% compared to the second quarter of 2023.

Interestingly, all the top 5 smartphone manufacturers experienced a significant decline in sales.

Samsung, holding a 20% market share, witnessed a 13% decrease in the number of units delivered.
Apple, with a 16% market share, saw a 9% decline in deliveries.
Xiaomi, occupying a 12% market share, experienced a 15% decrease in deliveries.
Oppo, with a 10% market share, faced a 10% decline in deliveries.
Vivo, owning an 8% market share, suffered a 14% decrease in deliveries.

Counterpoint also highlighted that the launch of the iPhone 15 in the final week of the quarter had a negative impact on Apple’s numbers. However, the early sales figures were promising for Apple in the fourth quarter.

In addition to the top 5 smartphone brands, three other brands, including Honor, Huawei, and Transsion, witnessed growth in sales. It is worth noting that Counterpoint previously forecasted the lowest global smartphone shipments in the past decade for the entire year of 2023.
