Terry Gou, Founder of Foxconn, Announces Presidential Bid in Taiwan 2024

Terry Gou, the influential founder of Foxconn, has officially announced his bid for the presidency of Taiwan in 2024, following his previous announcement in April 2023. Gou previously ran for president in the 2020 election but lost to Han Kuo-yu, the candidate for the Kuomintang party, who was ultimately defeated by incumbent President Tsai Ing-wen from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for a second term.

In this round of candidacy, Gou has chosen to run as an independent candidate, independent from any political party. As the DPP, currently in power, is unable to nominate Tsai Ing-wen for another term due to term limits, the current Vice President Lai Ching-te will be running in her place. The election is scheduled for January 13, 2024.
