The Future is Here: Apple Affirms iMessage’s Ongoing Distinction, Embracing Shades of Green and Azure, While Simultaneously Backing RCS

Apple announced its support for RCS on the iPhone in 2024, sparking the question of what color the message display box will be for RCS messages on iPhones. Apple’s response to this question is that RCS messages will be displayed in the same manner as SMS, meaning that the message box will remain green, just like before. Meanwhile, messages sent via iMessage will continue to be displayed in blue, reaffirming and providing confidence that it is a message sent through iMessage between iPhones, which Apple perceives to be more secure.

This issue may not be a big concern for Thai people, as they commonly use other platforms for messaging. However, in the United States, this is a major issue, particularly among the younger generation. If someone receives a message displayed in green, indicating that it was sent from an Android device and not an iPhone, it becomes a driving force for Google to demand Apple’s support for RCS. However, it remains uncertain whether this development will truly improve the situation if the message display boxes continue to be differentiated by color.

TL;DR – Apple has announced support for RCS on iPhones, with RCS messages being displayed in green message boxes, while iMessage messages will still be displayed in blue. While this may not be a significant concern for Thai users, it is a major issue in the United States, particularly among young people. The color differentiation may push Google to demand Apple’s support for RCS, but it remains uncertain whether this will lead to any significant improvement.
